The
Embassy of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines to the
United States of America serves as the Government
of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines’ political voice
in the USA. The Embassy’s role is to represent the
country and its position to the United States
Government; to defend and protect the interests of
Saint Vincent & the Grenadines and foster greater
relations between Saint Vincent & the Grenadines
and the United States of America. In this regard,
the Embassy’s role extends to seeking out
opportunities that will bring investment and
general economic benefit to Saint Vincent & the
Grenadines.
Jurisdiction and Accreditation
Apart
from its bilateral responsibilities to the United
States of America, the Embassy is also responsible
for working in the multi-lateral process, engaging
with the International Financial Institutions such
as the World Bank and the International Monetary
Fund. This diplomatic presence in Washington also
acts as a platform for fostering closer relations
with other countries in the Western Hemisphere,
particularly in Latin America.
The
Ambassador is concurrently accredited as the
Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the
Organisation of American States (OAS). In this
regard the Permanent Mission of Saint Vincent and
the Grenadines engages in the multilateral process
through the OAS and other entities of the
Inter-American System such as the Pan-American
Health Organisation (PAHO).
Scope
of Work
International relations and political engagement:
In the
conduct of its international relations, the
Embassy of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is the
primary channel through which the country
represents its interests to the United States'
Administration, Congress and policy-makers. This
includes matters that pertain to inter alia, trade
and investment; economic development; immigration;
tourism; education; health and security.
Diaspora community relations:
As an
instrument which can potentially make a tremendous
contribution to the development of Saint Vincent
and the Grenadines, the Vincentian Diaspora in the
USA is of vital importance. Therefore, relating
with the Vincentian Diaspora falls within the
remit of the Embassy.
